Doña Isidora is a captivating story of a young lady who marries against her parents' wishes a philanderer named Amador, by whom she has two children. The marriage ends in separation and "Ishi" (nickname for Doña Isidora) after many obstacles manages to become an independent business woman, establish a successful restaurant and travel with her son and daughter to several European countries. Amador's personality also evolves. Ishi's story is peppered with details of life in Pomabamba more than half a century ago, details that are true to life and known firsthand by the author, Mrs. Marting, who was born and raised in Pomabamba, Perú. The plot moves fast and certainly keeps the reader interested. I highly recommend this novel.Product details

The story content was very good. What disappointed me were all of the grammatical errors throughout the book.
Dona Isidora was a very good book; but, there were so many typographical errors in it that at times, you had to put the words together yourself.
However, I would recommend this to young women so they'd get a dose of reality when they think they're in love for the first time. It's not always love and it's not always something that be overcome. Ishi goes through many changes in this book and it well worth reading.
The picture on the front cover draws you to read the love story of a young and beautiful 15 year old heroine in the Andean town of Pomabamba, in Peru, South America in the early 19th century. Dona Isidora, affectionately known as Ishi, celebrates her coming of age party, known as Quinceanera, at which time she abandons her childhood and becomes a lady. Ishi falls in love with the handsome young Spaniard from Spain, and from that moment on her life is changed forever. The author has spared no details of how life was during the 19th century in the small community without the modern day conveniences that we rely on everyday. Once you start reading this novel, you will not want to put it down.
