I was looking forward to this book. Unfortunately fifty percent of the photos are of Venice, or publicity shots of the rich and famous in Venice or the rich and famous (maybe in Venice) wearing a piece of jewelry which on close inspection happens to be Nardi.Yes, Nardi is inimical to Venice and naturally, the women who have popularized it. But I expected a book on Nardi, not its' patrons or Venice. Nardi has a considerable body of extremely interesting and creative jewelery to cull from, and not just the blackamoors, but unfortunately, the book did not take full advantage of the opportunity to showcase the work of this marvelous jeweler. In all, more fill than substance.

Coffee Table Books on Jewelries are not cheap, some are worth buying
and other can be simply borrowed from Libraries. This book by Foulkes
belongs to the last category. I find the price of this book with 192
pages too much.
The History of Venice is covered by other excellent books and definitely
missing are concrete texts on the jewels.
Part history book, part jewelry book you will be pleased with it. And Venice, not to shabby! My favorite city, I do remember seeing the windows of Nardi, so to see the book is such a treat at a great price. My only complain, no examples of their fabulous tortoise-shell jewelry (I've seen examples in other jewelry books and they are to die for). Not to be missed!!
Highly recommend to anyone interested in extraordinary jewelry design. Excellent history of one of the world's most unique jewelry designers.
Good photos, but the narrative is very self serving and has little historical insight. Most just a praising of the founder with lots of name droping...not about the actual jewelry, the uniquness but a lot about self agandisement
