From the Author of the Darcy Sweet Mystery Series...

Adelle Powers, or Dell as she is known around the town of Lakeshore, is living her dream life. She and her best friend Rosie Ryan are owners of the wonderfully quirky Pine Lake Inn, a very popular Australian tourist destination. Running her own inn is the only thing she has ever wanted to do and it is her pride and joy.

So when Dell's friend Jessica calls to say she's coming for a visit Dell is ecstatic and can't wait to show it off to her friend. Surprisingly Dell finds that Rosie is less than thrilled about the visit and can't understand why. They were all such good friends, or so she thought.

It would seem that Rosie may know something about Jessica's past that Dell doesn't. Some sort of secret that Rosie is reluctant to share with her. When Jessica is found dead in her room the following day it would appear that her secret past may have finally caught up with her.

Horrified by the death of her good friend in her very own inn, Dell soon gets drawn into the mystery. And things take a turn for the very weird when Jessica's ghost visits her, more than once, directing Dell to clues that have been overlooked by a very incompetent police investigation.

Soon Dell finds her own life in peril as she gets further into the mystery surrounding her friends life, and death.

Death in Room 7 Pine Lake Inn Cozy Mystery Book 1 eBook KJ Emrick Reviews

I like that this series is going to be set in a non-traditional setting. I thought the story as a whole was very good - however, I don't like the way in which this ends in a cliff hanger. It is easy to guess who is going to be the protagonist in the next book and it also means that the following books are not going to be stand alone books. Good story but disappointing ending for me.
I really enjoyed this book and might read more, by this author. The language can be a bit goofy sounding, however, this takes place in Australia, and they just talk different. The heroine and the policeman, for once, were not love interests.. He was her son. That put a whole different twist, on the story. Yes, like one star reviewer said, Del did jump to conclusions, though I think that is just human nature and not a flaw, in the writing, of a mystery.
FIRST IN A NEW SERIES. ADELLE POWERS RUNS A LOVELY INN AT LAKESHORE, TASMANIA. A LONG TIME FRIEND DROPS IN FOR A VISIT. THE FRIEND IS FOUND DEAD THE NEXT MORNING. FIRST IMPRESSION IS SUICIDE, BUT CLOSER INSPECTION IMPLIES MURDER. THE SENIOR SERGEANT (I THINK, THAT'S LIKE A POLICE CHIEF HERE) SEEMS TO BE INCOMPETENT, SO IT COULD BE A TRIAL FINDING THE KILLER. ESPECIALLY, SINCE THE NINNY HAS ARRESTED ADELLE'S SON KEVIN, A FELLOW POLICEMAN. THIS SERIES HAS A LOT TO OFFER. WE GET SOME INTERESTING SLANG ADDED TO OUR VOCABULARY AS A BONUS.
Set in a small town in Tasmania, this is a really solid cozy mystery mixed with a heavy dose of paranormal towards the end of the book.

I really enjoyed the characters especially Dell, the owner of the Inn and her son Kevin who is on the police force.

If I had any quibbles about the book is was the fact that there were a few obvious lose ends that will obviously be picked up in subsequent books. I really don't like when authors do that in that I think it's cheating the reader, but that aside, I give this book a solid 4 stars -- well worth reading on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
I was enjoying reading a book by an Aussie author and set in Tassie too, where I lived for four years back when. But then she has the local dumb police sergeant charge the main character's policeman son with murder. Why? Because the son, doing his job, pointed out the reasons the supposed suicide at his mother's inn was actually murder and that he believed the husband probably did it. Really? It was just too much of a stretch. And it would have been a good enough read without that event even happening. It was disappointing.
This had the bones of a good mystery, but failed in the execution. It needs a lot of editing. I hate it when I have to read a sentence several times to know what it says, and I had to do that in this book. Putting regional expressions aside, this book needs help to make it more readable. No thanks to reading more of this author's books.
The author tells a believable, enjoyable story, throwing in just enough of the supernatural to keep the reader curious. However, to be taken seriously as an author Emrick needs to work on some basic writing skills, mostly agreement of tense. I found it distracting when the story bounced between present and past tense. A proofread by an experienced writer would elevate the writing.
I was really enjoying this book, until I realized that it wasn't really ending. That it leaving the real ending for another book.
